Retrograde Intrarenal Surgery Treatment

RIRS Treatment (retrograde intrarenal surgery): Retrograde intrarenal surgery (RIRS) is a procedure in which a viewing tube called a fiberoptic endoscope is used within the kidney for surgery.

In this surgery the endoscope is placed through the urethra (the urinary opening) into the bladder and then through the ureter into the urine-collecting part of the kidney. The endoscope thus is moved retrograde (up the urinary tract system) to within the kidney to fragment stone. Generally, RIRS is performed where the stones do not respond to ESWL or PCNL or URS.
